Intersex Nigeria held a 3-Day staff retreat from the 5th to the 7th of December, 2022. This retreat offered the employees the opportunity to rub minds with other each other and creatively draw workable plans which are consequently going to create a renewed drive to pursue the values, mission, and vision of our organization.
The staff retreat commenced with the first session on ‘self-awareness and its impact on others’ this was facilitated by Ms. Ibifubara Davies. She explains that self-awareness is the ability to tune in to your feelings, thoughts, and actions. The training made the staff understand their individuality, and core purpose, also discover what their values are, and how it might enhance or limit their relationship with others. The second session started after the tea break, Ms. Ibifubara Davies continued with these sessions on ‘How to Manage Conflict to maintain peaceful and respectful relationships and understanding anger, maintaining composure and perception when dealing with others.’
Day 2 started off with Ms. Ibifubara Davies taking the team through ‘mastering your decision-making and critical thinking skills’ session. The staff learned their different thinking processes and how they affect their thinking and decision-making. Ms. Davies rounded off the communications training by discussing how to build trust and interpersonal relationships in the workplace.
After lunch, Dr. Toyin Ajao facilitated the next activity – check-in exercise, healing, and Mental Wellness.’ Dr. Toyin explained and demonstrated the simple ways to help the team reconnect to purpose, and be more engaged, focused, and cohesive.
The third and final day of the retreat started with some Holistic Body Scan and Movement Flow to glow in which Dr. Toyin instructed and directed the team on how to connect and tap into their inner strength.
After lunch, the team gathered for a short meeting and rested briefly for their dinner.
The staff retreat ended on a good note with the staff feeling relaxed and refreshed. The team reflected on the achievements made individually and as a collective in the year 2022. And also renewed their commitment to creating more intersex visibility in Nigeria.
